WSK International Series round 4. Salbris (F) 2-3.6: A bumby ride!

Last weekend Parolin Racing’s super charged team truck headed to sunny France for a 4th round of the international WSK series. There were little changes in the driver line-up; Aki Rask, who missed last round due to a broken finger, had switched to KZ2 category after cancellation of the KF1 from the entire championship and the Belgian Michael Cool was having another race in Belgium meantime. Federico “Friendly Freddy” D’Amico joined the Finn in KZ2, Mario Schettino did the business in KF2 and Simone Favaro in KF3.
The weekend was not to become very successful results wise, even though some great performances our drivers did deliver. Simone Favaro had too much of a “coming and going” in the heats thus starting way back 13th for the final 1. Showing a truck load of great moves and pace, he finished the race in 6th position. In the second final he moved up to 4th straight away but was then spinned out the race the very first lap. Dropping far away back, he fought back like a man to post the fastest lap of the race and finish 12th. However, sad that a good bunch of important championship points were lost. He now holds 8th position in the points standing.
In KF2 Mario Schettino had a “be-out-of-luck” weekend. Being involved in some unfortunate accidents through the heats, he had to participate in the second chance heat. He fought till the very last meters; just one tenth of a second separated him from 6th and last qualifying position and made him finish 8th, thus having to watch the finals from the spectator’s point of view.
In KZ2 Aki, last year’s 15th in the KZ1 World Cup, had his first outing after a 3 month injury break. 9 months off the gearbox action showed off, and he managed to find his expected form just for the second final, where he, starting very last on the grid, made his way up to 10th position. “In Lonato it will be whole another business…” said the Finn after the race. Also Federico encountered major problems; in particular with the parc-fermé tires. Being 4th quickest in the morning practice didn’t mean much when race tires were mounted on. He was nearly a second slower in qualifying, even now that the track was in faster condition. Having then to fight in “mid-pack war” all races long, he posted a disappointing 14th in final 1 and DNF in final 2.
Now it’s all about analyzing the mistakes and problems added with little luck and the tide will turn!
