WSK International series round 5 Lonato (I) 30.6.-1.7.
Our boys were back in the action last weekend for the last round of the WSK international series in Lonato, near the Lake Garda in North Italy, just some 100k’s away from the Parolin factory. Record breaking heat wave in southern Europe made all three days of driving a sweaty business for everyone involved, and the tent was literally closer to a melting pot!
Compared to last round a month ago, we had taken a long leap ahead especially in KZ2. In KF3 it would be pretty much impossible because this little speedster named Simone Favaro has been a constant frontrunner since day 1 of his KF3 career which started just back in March. It was business as usual this time too, with Simone scoring 2nd and 3rd in final 1 and final 2 respectively, and 6th in the championship final classification.
In KZ2 a good bunch of some of the best drivers in the world entered this last round, such as Piccini, Thonon, Fore, Kozlinski and Vasiliauskas to mention a few. A month ago our guys Federico Friendly-Freddie d’Amico and Aki Rask were ages off the pace, but now they were both well in the business. Aki scored twice 6th, and Federico 11th and 12th in two finals. Aki showed some great starts all weekend and was running top-3 in both finals, but against drivers such caliper as those mentioned, being just less than a tenth off the pace means no champagne after 25 laps of racing. Federico keeps improving race by race and already coped well indeed head-to-head against “big boys”.
It is now two months time left to the KZ1 world cup in Sarno (I), and all signs are showing that by then, we’ll be ready to shake the top of the standings!

Finnish Championship round 2 : Parolin coastes on!
Last weekend, 9-10. June, the second round of the 2007 Finnish championship was held in Joensuu, Eastern Finland, about 400 km north from Helsinki. JR Hemet Racing Team, the Finnish importer of Parolin products, was especially well presented in ICC with 8 drivers entering the race.
And like it’s been all season, there was no stopping them this time either. Aki Rask, Parolin works driver, raced first time back at home soil since more than 2 years, and did with style, easily winning both finals. Parolin ace Jesse Kuusi scored podium in both finals as well. Usage of various engines – TM and Debei, and various chassis models – Invader, Monza and Le Mans – is a good sign that… our stuff just simply works!

WSK International Series round 4. Salbris (F) 2-3.6: A bumby ride!
Last weekend Parolin Racing’s super charged team truck headed to sunny France for a 4th round of the international WSK series. There were little changes in the driver line-up; Aki Rask, who missed last round due to a broken finger, had switched to KZ2 category after cancellation of the KF1 from the entire championship and the Belgian Michael Cool was having another race in Belgium meantime. Federico “Friendly Freddy” D’Amico joined the Finn in KZ2, Mario Schettino did the business in KF2 and Simone Favaro in KF3.
The weekend was not to become very successful results wise, even though some great performances our drivers did deliver. Simone Favaro had too much of a “coming and going” in the heats thus starting way back 13th for the final 1. Showing a truck load of great moves and pace, he finished the race in 6th position. In the second final he moved up to 4th straight away but was then spinned out the race the very first lap. Dropping far away back, he fought back like a man to post the fastest lap of the race and finish 12th. However, sad that a good bunch of important championship points were lost. He now holds 8th position in the points standing.
In KF2 Mario Schettino had a “be-out-of-luck” weekend. Being involved in some unfortunate accidents through the heats, he had to participate in the second chance heat. He fought till the very last meters; just one tenth of a second separated him from 6th and last qualifying position and made him finish 8th, thus having to watch the finals from the spectator’s point of view.
In KZ2 Aki, last year’s 15th in the KZ1 World Cup, had his first outing after a 3 month injury break. 9 months off the gearbox action showed off, and he managed to find his expected form just for the second final, where he, starting very last on the grid, made his way up to 10th position. “In Lonato it will be whole another business…” said the Finn after the race. Also Federico encountered major problems; in particular with the parc-fermé tires. Being 4th quickest in the morning practice didn’t mean much when race tires were mounted on. He was nearly a second slower in qualifying, even now that the track was in faster condition. Having then to fight in “mid-pack war” all races long, he posted a disappointing 14th in final 1 and DNF in final 2.
Now it’s all about analyzing the mistakes and problems added with little luck and the tide will turn!
